September 7, 2008: Challenge Classics label has released a new album with the complete chamber music of the Dutch composer Agnes Jama (1911-1993). Her music is rarely performed nowadays and this is undeserved. Notwithstanding the evident influences of i.e. Débussy, Bartók and Messiaen, her work shows a very personal style with a vital sense of rhythm and spicy harmonies. That makes her music worth listening to.
Besides Marcel the following musicians also can be heard on this CD: Soesja Citroen (voice, daughter of the composer), Irene Maessen (soprano), Helena Rasker (mezzo-soprano), Ursula Schoch (violin), Ivar Berix (clarinet) en Daniël Esser (violoncello).

Maurice Ravel spoke about Beers as 'Musicien d'avenir', composer of the future. Because of his premature death his vital, transparant and often jazzy music fell into oblivion. Thanks to the initiative of flutist Eleonore Pameijer and musicologist Jurjen Vis it can be heard again. Besides Marcel the following musicians can be heard on the album: Irene Maessen (soprano), Marcel Beekman (tenor), Eleonore Pameijer (flute), Ursula Schoch (violin) and Marcel's pianocolleagues Marja Bon and Frans van Ruth.
